Alessandra Hunt is a post-doctoral research associate at the Waters Lab in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Her research focuses on understanding the role of biofilms in diseases like cystic fibrosis and chronic wounds and developing novel antimicrobial drugs. Before coming to MSU, Dr. Hunt worked as a Research Scientist at the Center for Biofilm Engineering at Montana State University working on anti-biofilm strategies for a variety of medical and dental applications. She holds a D.D.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of São Paulo, Brazil and also specializes in infection control in health care settings. In addition to scientific research, Alessandra has a special interest in helping bridging the gap between discoveries in the lab and real world applications.
