Colleen Friel is a third-year graduate student in Plant Biology at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on how plants interact with beneficial microbes in the soil, particularly the regulation of interactions between legumes and nitrogen-fixing bacteria called rhizobia. As an undergraduate at Allegheny College, she conducted research in microbiology and plant physiology and earned a B.S. in Biochemistry. After graduate school, Colleen plans to work in industry or the public sector to improve agricultural sustainability.
